The company Socopa of the Bigard group announced this Friday, April 6, the recall of 500 kg of minced meat. A control revealed the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria in a batch marketed in the south and east of France as well as in Corsica. The use-by date of the products concerned is March 28 to 31.
The meat in question is therefore no longer available in stores, but it could have been purchased and frozen. “No patient or case of food poisoning in connection with the concerned batch has been brought to the attention of the company and the health authorities” specified the company in a press release, indicating to act “in respect of the principle of precaution “.
Socopa invites customers in possession of affected products to throw them away or bring them back to the store. The brands concerned are Auchan, Boucherie Saint Clément and Socopa “Le délice du boucher”, sold in Auchan, Leclerc, Simply, Atac, Leader Price and Aldi stores.
Despite controls, “zero risk does not exist”
Escherichia coli O26: H11 bacteria can cause gastrointestinal upset when meat is undercooked. The positive control took place within the framework of the surveillance plan of the General Directorate of Food on pathogenic E.coli which depends on the Ministry of Agriculture.
“We are surprised because all of our internal controls are compliant,” Alexandra Fleury, quality manager at Socopa Viandes, told AFP. “We already have a lot of preventive measures in place at all stages of the food chain, from receiving live animals to making ground beef, and we think this plan is very effective. ‘does not exist, “she added.
The company says it has carried out additional checks on the incriminated batch as well as on the adjacent batches which turned out to “all comply”. According to her, “the initial positive result remains totally isolated”.
