The EFS is not on vacation and quite the contrary. To remind us that there is no slack period in blood donation, the organization is launching its new summer campaign.
The mobilization campaign entitled “On vacation, I give my blood” will be relayed in metropolitan France from July 15 to August 4. Three weeks during which 1200 radio spots will be broadcast on different frequencies. The main idea is to remember that you can donate blood anytime and anywhere. To help holidaymakers find a donation center, the EFS offers an interactive map on its site to locate the closest collection point to their home or vacation spot.
The EFS thus hopes to succeed in obtaining the 10,000 blood donations needed every day in France to meet the needs of patients. Traffic accidents, people with blood diseases or even immunocompromised people are among the patients who require transfusions of blood, white blood cells or platelets.
“Every year there is a significant drop in blood reserves during this summer period. However, wherever you are in France, you can donate blood. Our 153 EFS sites and our mobile collections, especially those organized in your vacation spots, welcome you, ”recalls the EFS.
This year, the drop in blood donation due to the heatwave would be estimated at 25,000 fewer donors.
“A donation lasts 45 minutes but the collection itself only lasts 10 minutes. It is estimated that each year, a million patients are treated thanks to the generosity of donors ”recalls the EFS on its site.
Blood donation: what is it for?
No treatment or synthetic drug can yet replace blood products. Irreplaceable and vital, blood products are indicated in two main cases: emergency situations, and chronic needs, which concern patients that only a blood transfusion can help to heal or alleviate.
