I have a question about when to inject insulin. I use Novomix-30, 36 units for breakfast and 38 units for dinner. Can this also be done once in the morning (when getting up) and once in the evening (before going to bed)?
Do not. The insulin you use is only suitable for injecting with meals. Preferably immediately before eating, or if that is not possible shortly after the meal. Novomix, the name says it all, is a mix of different types of insulin. Novomix-30 consists of 30 percent fast-acting and 70 percent (medium) long-acting insulin. The fast insulin ensures that the sugars from the meal are immediately processed properly. The effect is maximum within an hour after injection. The slow insulin works spread over the day. If you inject this combination insulin without eating, there is a good chance that you will get a ‘hypo’ (too low sugar level). This is especially dangerous at night. So really stick to the agreed schedule and consult with your therapist if you want to change anything.
Also send in your medicine request. You can do that here.
