It is true that, naturally, you would think that someone who is happy and well in their sneakers would do a lot more. of dreamsnice that a anxious person or unhappy. However, no scientific study has so far validated this theory. The “dream seekers” were mainly interested in the nights of people suffering from psychopathological disorders, but never serene people. Scientists from the University of Turku, Finland and the University of Skövde, Sweden decided to remedy this and published, in the journal Scientific Reports, a study validating this first theory.
This is the first study to analyze how peace of mind relates to dream content. “Peace of mind is a state of inner peace and harmony, a state of well-being more complex and lasting, traditionally associated with happiness in oriental cultures “explains in a statement Pilleriin Sikka, Doctor of Psychology at the University of Turku.
No more positive dreams in a serene mind
The researchers asked 44 healthy volunteers to complete a questionnaire that measured their discomfort and well-being. Over the next three weeks, participants kept a daily journal in which each morning, upon waking, they brought back their dreams and rated the associated emotions.
The results showed that high levels of peace of mind (regardless of overall well-being) were linked to more positive dreams, while people with anxiety or with depressive symptoms reported dreams with more negative emotions. These observations show that the content of dreams can reflect the mental health of an individual.
