A study published by the magazine 60 million consumers reveals that “dental care is too often the subject of excessive pricing practiceseven unacceptable deviations”.
This study, based on Social Security figures, was carried out by the Citizen Observatory of Health Charges, an organization created by 60 million consumers, the CISS (collective of patients) and Santéclair, a subsidiary of several complementary health.
The rest to be borne, the main reason for the renunciation
Dental care not reimbursed by social security, such as prostheses, crowns, bridges, implants, inlays (partial reconstructions of teeth) or reconstructions cost too much and their charges are too high.
According to the study “the sums requested for a ceramic-metallic crown exceed 600 euros, while the coverage of the health insurance is only 75.25 euros, i.e. 70% of the reimbursement base, and the average cost of implant placement little supported by health insurance is over 2000 euros. »
After reimbursement by Social Security, the Observatory assessed that “the sum which remains payable by the patient amounts to more than 290 euros on average per act of prosthesis, with variations according to the departments: it hardly goes down never below 200 euros and climbs to over 400 euros in Paris. It confirms that “if this remaining charge can be reimbursed by complementary insurance, it is very difficult to have a precise estimate of their overall level of coverage”, and recalls that “this pricing practice is all the more serious, that in some cases there are less expensive solutions but little practiced by dentists. »
Fewer overruns for routine care
The Observatory, on the other hand, noted that “ordinary care (decay, devitalization, descaling, etc.), the prices of which are regulated by the Health Insurance, are not subject to overruns, outside of Paris which represents 57% overruns observed for this type of care. »
