Britain’s national statistics office has just publish your newsletter on the number of deaths recorded in the British Isles. It indicates that dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease is the best known form) is the main cause of death across the Channel, with 11.6% of all deaths recorded in 2015.
The cardiovascular illnesses are the 2nd leading cause of death with 11.5%. These heart diseases remain the main cause of death in men with 14.3% of all deaths while in women the main cause of death is dementia which accounts for 15.2% of all deaths.

Improved detection and diagnosis
“In 2015, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease have become the leading cause of death partly because people are living longer, but also because of improved detection and diagnosis. Finally, an update of international rules to determine the underlying cause of death is also a factor that influences the statistics with the increase in cases attributed to these diseases. when accompanied by falls“ the researchers point out.
