Rapid serological tests, called TROD, will be offered in June to French people coming to receive their first dose of vaccine against Covid-19. Explanations.
- The decrease in all the indicators of the epidemic is confirmed for the fifth week in a row.
- Since the start of the vaccination campaign in France, 27,484,767 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 41% of the total population and 52.3% of the adult population) and 12,009,164 people have received two injections (i.e. 17.9% of the total population and 22.9% of the adult population).
Following a recommendation from the HASthe Minister of Health Olivier Véran confirmed that rapid serological tests, called TROD, will be offered in June to French people coming to receive their first dose of vaccine against Covid-19.
What is a TROD?
A TROD is a blood draw test, which involves taking a drop from the person’s fingertip. The result is available fifteen minutes later. If it is positive, it means that the person has already been in contact with the coronavirus, that they have antibodies against Covid-19 and therefore only need to receive a single dose of the vaccine.
Indeed, in its opinion of February 11, 2021, the High Authority for Health (HAS) recommended a single dose of vaccine for people who have had an infection with SARS-CoV-2, whether or not they have developed a form symptomatic of Covid-19. This recommendation applies regardless of the age of the infection, people who have already been infected retain an immune memory.
When is a single dose needed?
“The latest scientific publications confirm the validity of this recommendation: the protection conferred by a single dose injected into a person with a history of infection is greater than that of two doses injected into a person with no history”, write public health experts.
It is estimated that 23% of the French population has been infected with Covid-19, but only 8% has been detected by PCR or antigen testing.
