Taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs could be a factor in aggravating SARS-CoV-2 infection. The Ministry of Health recommends the use of paracetamol in case of fever.
- Anti-inflammatories can worsen the condition of coronavirus patients
- For fever, take paracetamol
Be careful if you have symptoms (fever, headaches or body aches) corresponding to Covid-19: taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as cortisone or ibuprofen could worsen your state of health if the coronavirus infection is proven.
It was Olivier Véran, the Minister of Health, who communicated the information on his twitter account on Saturday March 14, recommending that people who take these anti-inflammatories for other pathologies to seek advice from their doctor.
The drugs to be taken for people with or suspected of Covid-19 are those based on paracetamol.
Medications that are no longer available over the counter
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have not been sold over-the-counter in pharmacies since January 15 after a warning from the ANSM (National Agency for the Safety of Medicines) following their aggravating effects in infectious states. In the case of Covid-19, several doctors reportedly alerted health authorities to cases of young patients who ended up in serious condition after taking ibuprofen for a fever.
To lower this fever, it is therefore recommended to use paracetamol, knowing that this product can also be dangerous by causing serious liver damage when taken in too high doses.
