The limitation of the number of people at public or private gatherings gives rise to some confusion. Between recommendation and ban, what are the rules in force concerning gatherings?
The rule of six
In his announcement on October 14, Emmanuel Macron mentioned “the rule of six”. Sources of contamination are growing in the private sphere. To slow down the acceleration of the spread of the virus and deal with the health situation “which degrades”, The President of the Republic reacted accordingly. At home, it is recommended to limit the number of people to 6, during dinner or gatherings. This is the principle of “social bubble“, the group of people you frequent must remain the same, so you have to avoid being in contact with”different people“:”When we receive friends, at dinner, when we celebrate a birthday, when we eat at a restaurant, the rule is six maximum.” This “rule of six”Is therefore also valid at the table, in the restaurant. In addition, the authorities call for great vigilance with regard to fragile populations (elderly people, people suffering from chronic diseases, etc.). The government also encourages the wearing of masks in the private sphere. It is therefore not forbidden to meet at home, on condition of a maximum of 6 people, but it is advisable “not to multiply the dinners”, Declared Olivier Véran.
Public places
In areas in “alert”, Festive or family gatherings are limited to 30 people in all establishments open to the public (party rooms, marquees, tents, and multipurpose rooms). Currently, 74 departments are concerned. On the territories placed in “enhanced alert zone”, It is forbidden to gather more than 10 people on the public highway or in places open to the public. The reception of the population in establishments open to the public for festive or family events is prohibited. For areas in “maximum alert”, Gatherings of more than 10 people on public roads or in places open to the public are prohibited. In addition, all establishments open to the public are closed, unless they comply with the new strict health protocol (restaurants, theaters, cinemas and museums).
Family gatherings
For departments and cities in enhanced and maximum alert zones, private gatherings are not recommended. They are prohibited beyond more than 10 people in the public space. Ceremonies (baptism, weddings, etc.) can take place in town halls or in places of worship, but parties are not allowed, neither in establishments, nor in the private setting. On the other hand, there is a priori no ban on burials. The Minister of Health calls for common sense and everyone’s responsibility.
