A little American was the victim of a stroke, after being contaminated with Covid-19. These kinds of complications are exceptional, especially in toddlers.
Surgery required
Colt Parris, a child aged just three, suffered a stroke shortly before the Christmas holidays. He was diagnosed positive for the Sars-Cov-2 virus. The mother of this young boy observed in her son a loss of his ability to move his arm and his right leg. Neurologists believe that this “attack” is probably linked to his contamination with Covid-19, because according to them, patients are likely to develop blood clots after infection. His parents were also concerned after seeing a loss of speech in their child. He was quickly taken care of by emergency services and then transported to hospital in Salisbury, Missouri. The child had to be operated on for a blood clot in the left side of his brain. He has now returned home and is recovering. He should recover without any consequences. This is the only case in the world for the moment.
Children are generally not affected by the disease
Knowledge about Covid-19 and children has evolved since the start of the epidemic. Very young children are not very symptomatic. It is for this reason that schools and nurseries remained open during the second confinement. They may also have only one symptom, such as diarrhea or frostbite (swelling at the tips of the toes). According to INSERM, those under 18 represent less than 10% of diagnosed cases and most present moderate forms of the disease. The SFP (Société Française de Pédiatrie) recalls the importance of respecting barrier gestures for adults and children, such as regular washing and frequent disinfection of the hands. This is one of the best ways to limit the spread of the virus. In addition, wearing a mask is compulsory from the age of six at school and eleven in public transport.
