According to a flash survey dated January 26 and 27, 2021 dealing with the circulation of variants of the coronavirus in France, 14% of positive cases for Covid-19 are linked to the variants. This represents one in seven positive tests.
One in seven positive tests is linked to variants
A flash survey was carried out at the end of January to study the French situation relating to the presence of variants of the coronavirus. The results of the survey conducted on January 26 and 27, thus made it possible to identify the presence of variants of the coronavirus in 14% of positive cases in France, which represents one positive test in seven.
While the last flash survey on the subject dating from January 7 and 8, 2021 revealed that the English variant represented only 3.3% of tests, these results therefore indicate an increase in the circulation of variants in France. However, this increase in cases is not considered explosive as declared by Professor Bruno Lina, virologist and member of the Scientific Council during an interview with BMTV. According to him, “ There has been an increase in the circulation of these variants, an increase which is not explosive as we have seen in Ireland or Portugal. But which is linear and continuous “.
The English variant represents more than 90% of the variants
According to Professor Bruno Lina, the so-called British variant currently represents more than 90% of variants. The presence of this English variant would increase by about 60% each week among French people. According to him, the situation varies from region to region: “ The penetration rates of this variant are what we expected in terms of the normal dynamics of the evolution of this variant. We are around 14% in France. With regional disparities, knowing that there are more in Ile-de-France. Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is in the low average, around 10% He explained to BFM.
In any case, the virologist calls for handling these figures with care. And for good reason, all the samples have not yet been analyzed. In fact, there would remain around 20% of the samples (between 800 and 900 samples to be precise), to refine the proportion of variants in these tests.
