Twenty-nine residents tested positive for Covid-19, as well as 5 staff members. A person over 90 has died.
Eighty-four elderly people are again confined to Meurthe-et-Moselle. The Grand Est Regional Health Agency announced it in a communicated, Monday, August 10. The entire Pulnoy nursing home is in isolation following the discovery of cases of Covid-19 and the death of a resident on August 9. The elderly person had tested positive on August 6. A total of 29 residents are positive as well as 5 employees. No case of Covid-19 had been detected so far in the establishment.
Different protective measures
With the Regional Health Agency, the Ehpad has put in place several measures to protect its residents. All now take their meals in their rooms and can no longer see their families. Events and activities are also suspended. At the same time, nursing home staff are implementing increased monitoring of the state of health of patients. The organization of the schedules of the healthcare teams will also be reviewed and the cleaning of the premises reinforced.
All people who have visited the establishment in the last few days will be contacted to avoid further transmission of the virus.
Several reconfigured establishments in France
At the end of July, another Ehpad, located in Finistère, was also reconfigured for prevention. The decision was made after symptoms appeared in several residents. All the tests were negative, but the director of the establishment had preferred to take precautions in the face of the resurgence of cases in the region. “We noticed that there was an upsurge in positive cases of Covid-19 in the sector, around a hundred cases in the space of a few days within a radius of 30 kilometers around Brest, explained David Guevel to BFM TV. Quite quickly the decision to close the establishment to the public became the most reasonable and rational thing to do.
This establishment in Ploudalmézeau was the first to be reconfigured in France since the gradual deconfinement of the country in May. A few days later, an Ehpad in Mougins, in the Alpes-Maritimes, also isolated its residents after a person tested positive for Covid-19. In Charleville-Mézières, the two retirement homes in the city were also placed in reconfinement after the discovery of a case.
