Nearly half of parents say they are more cautious about the risk of accidents in everyday life since the start of the health crisis, according to a new survey by the Assurance Prévention association. An evolution which is explained by the presence of children on a daily basis (55%) and by the increased presence of parents at their home (44%) during the confinement of March-May.
13% of parents were nevertheless directly confronted with a risky situation at home during this period. Despite their awareness of the risks, 93% of parents say they have already had an attitude that could cause an accident in everyday life.
Behaviors that can cause a fall at home
More specifically, 79% of parents have already had a behavior that could cause a fall at home:
– walking on wet or slippery floors (in the bathroom, after mopping, etc.) (67%)
– climbing on an unsecured ladder or an unstable chair (52%),
– leave furniture or objects that can be used as a step under windows or on a balcony (20%),
– leaving damaged/bare electrical wires lying around (14% ).
The main reasons given for these behaviors are ease (66%) and habit (65%), followed by inattention (57%), lack of time (47%) and perceived lack of danger (44%). ).

For their part, 43% of children say that their parents have already left objects that could cause them to fall, left the floor wet or left an accessible window open without a barrier. Nearly half of children say they have already had a fall at home (48%).
