In a perfect world, anyone could get to the emergency room without traveling for miles. Once arrived, we would be taken care of quickly without having to wait for hours in a row … A waking dream? Maybe not. Marisol Touraine would like to achieve it by 2017. No time to waste, the Minister of Health detailed at the 8th Emergency Congress a smart plan to get there.
Objective: access emergency care in less than 30 minutes. “More than two million French people lived more than 30 minutes from urgent care two years ago. It will be less than a million by the end of this year!” assured the minister.
Fast tracks to be generalized
For this, the implementation of “fast tracks” is envisaged. Concretely, these “fast lanes” will allow patients who do not require hospitalization to be taken care of more quickly. “They make it possible to quickly provide simple care to patients who are not the most urgent and who do not need to be hospitalized. These devices have already been developed in many establishments and are giving excellent results. We must continue. in this sense “, explained the minister.
A welcome charter in each hospital
To alleviate the emergency room, the hospital will also be called upon. Each establishment will work to improve the time taken to take charge of each patient thanks to a “welcome charter” which would make it possible to take stock of the situation every hour for each patient. All departments can thus be equipped with indicators on waiting times by reception sector.
Every year, hospital emergency departments see 20 million people parade.
