The number of intoxication cocaine doubled between 2015 and 2016. This is what the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) reveals in a communicated. An increase deemed “worrying”, since it continues to be observed for the year 2017.
A national investigation is underway
How to explain this phenomenon ? If the ANSM does not provide a precise answer, it puts forward a hypothesis: the increase in the number ofpoisoning to cocaine could be linked to “the increase in the concentration of the product sold (increase in the ‘purity’ of cocaine) and its greater availability”. The ANSM specifies that a national addictovigilance survey is underway, in order to more precisely explain this progression.
Faced with this worrying increase, the ANSM reminds healthcare professionals that the symptoms linked to cocaine intoxication can be the following: clammy and pale skin, sweating, malaise, tremors, very tight jaws, vomiting, visual disturbances , pupil dilation, but also complications cardiovascular, neurological and psychiatric. A precision aimed at ensuring faster patient care.
