A rare Citroën Méhari 4 x 4 will be auctioned in Creuse (23) on September 19, during a sale organized for Heritage Days. Only 1,213 copies of this 4-wheel drive version were produced. This is estimated at more than € 17,000.
The Citroën Méhari was produced in more than 140,000 copies between 1968 and 1987. But its 4 x 4 version, with only 1,213 units assembled between 1972 and 1983, is rare and therefore sought after today. Notice to amateurs: one of these all-wheel drive Mehari will be auctioned on September 19 in Gouzon, in the Creuse (23).

The Méhari even more versatile
Unlike the Citroën 2CV Sahara, the Méhari 4 x 4 does not have two engines. Its configuration is much simpler, but almost as effective thanks to the reduction of its gearbox helping it to climb hills at 60% incline according to Citroën. The car has four independent wheels, an atypical configuration for an off-roader of the time. The specimen in question here dates from 1981. It does without the optional spare wheel on the hood, but has tubular bumpers allowing the 4 x 4 model to be recognized.


With its sand color and khaki tonneau cover, it also displays a military look reminiscent of the official Mehari of the French army. Its odometer displays 39,380 km, a figure that is not guaranteed. The car is however accompanied by its registration certificate. and its last four technical inspections. She is not in perfect condition, but everything works on board according to the announcement of the sale.
A 4 x 4 Mehari estimated at nearly 20 000 €
This Méhari 4 x 4 will be offered during a sale organized as part of the Heritage Days. It is estimated between 17,000 and 18,000 €. In 2017, an example restored twenty years earlier and displaying 66,000 km had changed hands for € 26,840; auctions could therefore quickly exceed this indicative value. The list of lots also includes a Renault Novaquatre, a rare Mathis SBA and some remarkable American cars, such as an Oldsmobile Toronado. The same day, at the Citroën Conservatory of Aulnay-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis), it is a very rare Citroën FAF 4 x 4 civilian, “cousin” of the Méhari 4 x 4 designed for difficult environments, which will be auctioned during the Peugeot Citroën DS Adventure sale.
