We know that to prevent the occurrence of certain diseases (particularly cardiovascular), prevention is the key. However, if young people benefit from about twenty “control” medical consultations until the age of 16, this follow-up then stops. And once adults, we only go to the doctor when we are sick!
Precisely: in order to strengthen the prevention component of the French health system, the Minister of Health François Braun announced this Sunday, September 18 in the Sunday newspaper (JDD) that free medical consultations will be offered to French people at “three key ages of life, 25 years old, 45 years old and 65 years old“. These consultations will be carried out by “doctors and health professionals“.
Take stock of your mental health, physical activity, addictions…
At 25, the consultation will aim to “take stock of vaccines, physical activity, possible addictions or difficulties related to the start of professional life“. Young adults will also be made aware of “the need to have an attending physician and the cardiovascular risk.“
At 45, it will be a question of screening for the various cancers (breast, colon or prostate cancer, in particular) and of looking into the mental health of the patient as well as his physical activity. At age 65, issues related to “loss of autonomy“will be addressed.
For the moment, no date announced for this innovation which should, according to the minister, bring us into the era of prevention“. These free medical consultations will be presented to the Council of Ministers at the same time as the Social Security financing bill (PLFSS) for 2023, that is to say at the end of September 2022.
