According to our colleagues from Var-Morning, a second case of chikungunya was detected in the Var. The department is on alert.
Find the person who transmitted the virus
The situation is starting to worry the authorities: two cases of chikungunya have been detected in the Var. And these two cases are autochthonous, that is to say that the two infected people were infected in France, near the town of Cannet des Maures, about thirty kilometers from Draguignan, and not during a trip. They were taken care of but the presence of tiger mosquitoes carrying the virus is not very reassuring.
The regional health agency said it had carried out a ” mosquito control “ places that infected people used to go to and that it was investigating to locate the person who transmitted the virus. If an infected person is bitten by a tiger mosquito, then the virus will spread to all victims of that same mosquito.
Some precautions to take to limit the risks
The first patient had been confined, so it was probably not through him that the virus was transmitted. According to Parisian, the department is on alert 3 at chikungunya. To prevent the virus from spreading too quickly, the authorities wished to recall some basic rules. They explained in particular that it was necessary to avoid having reservoirs of stagnant water or leaving decomposing organic waste near his home.
Whether you live in the Var or in another department in metropolitan France, if you see a tiger mosquito, easily identifiable thanks to its white stripes, do not hesitate to report it on the dedicated site for this purpose. Currently, only the south-east of France and Corsica seem to be strongly affected. If you live in these areas, consider getting a repellant to be safe.
