Here, take chamomile, for example. Ideal to facilitate falling asleep and digestion, it is also effective (in the form of essential oil) to fight allergies, stress and sore throat. Some researchers even believe that it could protect us from cancer !
It gets better: very recently, scientists from the University of Texas (United States) succeeded in showing that chamomile could help us live longer … To come to this conclusion, the researchers (who have published their work in the scientific journal The Gerontologist journal) observed the state of health of 1,677 volunteers for 7 years. Among them, 14% regularly drank chamomile.
Only women are affected
Verdict? Researchers observed that regular consumption of chamomile (mainly in the form of herbal teas) could reduce all causes of premature death by 29%. Just that !
One small caveat: these – incredible – results only work on women. And researchers have not (yet) managed to understand why. “We are going to carry out a complementary study in order to dig this track”, explains Dr. Bret Howrey, one of the authors of the study. In the meantime, goodbye coffee, here we are converted to chamomile!
