- He recommends cruciferous vegetables, olive oil, nuts and seeds as well as red fruits.
- As for drinks, green tea or an infusion of wild sage can potentially increase lifespan.
Dr. Mark Hyman has developed certain habits over the years that have allowed him to stay healthy and also reduce his biological age (exact physiological state of the individual) by approximately 20 years. He published on his TikTok account the five foods you should put on your plate to ensure “a long and healthy life”.
Cruciferous vegetables reduce the risk of inflammation and cancer
Although they contain many good nutrients, cruciferous vegetables are not necessarily well identified. “It’s simply broccoli and its families like cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts”indicates the doctor.
“All of these contain compounds that activate cellular detoxification pathways that optimize your mineral status”, specifies the specialist. The phytonutrients contained in these vegetables are known to reduce the risk of inflammation and cancer. They are also good sources of magnesium, folate and fiber which stimulate digestion.
The doctor advises eating one to two cups of cruciferous vegetables every day.
Olive oil: good fats and anti-inflammatory compounds on the plate
Dr. Mark Hyman also explains cooking daily with olive oil, a staple of the Mediterranean diet, and more particularly with extra-virgin oil. “It’s been shown to contain all sorts of anti-inflammatory compounds.”he said in his video.
Olive oil is known for “to have good taste”it is also rich in healthy monounsaturated fats and it contains high amounts of antioxidants.
“Good fats are good for you”he insists. “You need to make sure you’re getting plenty of good fats, and olive oil is a great way to do that.”
Nuts and seeds increase longevity
Nuts and seeds are an integral part of the doctor’s diet because they are “full of minerals, fats, proteins and fibers”. The expert adds that several studies have shown that these foods help increase longevity or reduce diabetes.
The advantage of this type of food is also the variety which avoids monotony on the plate. Dr. Hyman recommends choosing almonds, walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, hemp seeds, chia seeds or even sesame seeds.
Red fruits rich in antioxidants
Cranberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries…. We all know that fruits are great allies for the body. They contain many “antioxidants” And “phytochemicals“playing a protective role.
“These phytochemicals activate the longevity pathways we all need to activate our healing systems, which is the key to staying young forever“, details the doctor in his video.

Green tea prevents diseases
Dr. Hyman says he drinks green tea daily. If he included this drink in his list of anti-aging foods, it’s because it “contains all these phytochemicals [et] catechins. “They have been shown to turn on longevity switches and pathways in our body that keep us young and healthy”he indicates.
Several studies have, in fact, shown that compounds in green tea can help prevent cancer and heart disease, and potentially extend lifespan.
If you don’t like this drink, Dr. Hyman suggests an infusion made from wild sage. Many residents of Ikaria, where he stayed, consume it. This Greek island is one of the blue zones where the number of centenarians is higher than the world average.
