Avocados are tasty and healthy
Good question! In this section, Health Net is looking for answers to nagging questions. This time: can you freeze an avocado?
Avocados are tasty, healthy and can be combined endlessly in different dishes. We are only too happy to eat them. But they often ripen too quickly, quickly leaving you with a brown gunk. Not handy if you prefer to do your shopping for the whole week right away and don’t want to eat that dish with avocado for three days. Now what: can you freeze an avocado?
Freezing avocados
Yes, you can just freeze an avocado. This is how you do it:
- Cut the avocados in half and remove the pit with a knife or spoon.
- Keep them in a vacuum (freezer) bag, or make a vacuum bag yourself by sucking the air out with a straw.
- Put them in the freezer.
- Do you want to eat one? Then place it with the light green, cut side on kitchen paper, so that the paper can absorb the moisture of the avocado – which is created during defrosting.
- Et voilà! You will have a perfect avocado with still great texture and flavor.
You can keep avocados in the freezer this way for up to four months without losing texture or flavor.
Do you find freezing avocados too much of a hassle? Nowadays you can also buy frozen avocado pieces in many supermarkets. Ideal for making healthy juices and smoothies.
