Pharmacist Sonja Keizers answers
Scleroderma makes it difficult for me to squeeze small pills out of the strips. Until recently, for example, I received Nifedipine in jars. Now the pharmacy wants to supply me with the pills in a ‘baxter roll’. I do not want that. Am I obliged to?
The medicine roll, also called baxter, is a useful tool for many people. For example, if you have difficulty with the packaging, due to rheumatism or other complaints of the hands. Or when you have to take so many pills that it becomes difficult to keep track of everything neatly. The ready-made bags take away a lot of worries. You can expect a pharmacist to offer an alternative if you cannot handle the normal packaging. But also that he takes personal preferences into account. The choice of a baxter should be the outcome of consultation and not something forced on you. I advise you to look with your pharmacist for options that better suit your needs. Nifedipine may be converted to a similar drug that is available in jar packaging.
Also send in your medicine request. You can do that here.
