The study shows that menus eaten at McDonald’s and selected by parents for their children contain 102 calories less on average when energy is emphasized.
Displaying the number of calories on every McDonald’s menu would allow parents to make smarter nutritional choices for their children to improve their quality of life and protect their health.
“Adjustments to the number of calories, even small but made on a regular basis, can reduce the risk of weight gain and improve long-term health. (…) It is interesting that by simply giving parents got the calorie information from the menus, they chose the lighter products. This is encouraging, and it suggests that parents really want to make wise food decisions for their children, but they need help. ” , said Doctor Tandon.
The study also offers some tips that can help parents monitor their children’s nutrition:
– Eat at a restaurant as little as possible
– Lead by example by choosing balanced menus
– Use in small quantities
– Choose light side dishes: salad or vegetables for example
– Drink water, milk or fruit juices
– Avoid fried or breaded products
– Do not add cheese, butter, salt or sauces to your initial menus
– Teach children to moderate themselves
