According to this work, accidents at work are on the decline in France, but those linked to a ” psychic affection Keep increasing. In 2016, 10,000 cases of mental health problems recognized as accidents at work were recorded by the Health Insurance.
The number of these accidents at work has only increased in recent years: + 10% per year from 2011 to 2014; + 5% between 2014 and 2015; and +1% between 2015 and 2016. But these figures only relate to mental illnesses declared as accidents at work. If we look at the mental illnesses recognized as occupational illnesses, we observe that they have multiplied by 5 in 5 years.
Women particularly affected
But what does the term “ psychic affections “? Health insurance thus defines anxiety disorders, chronic insomnia, depression or excess stress. For mental disorders to be recognized as accidents at work, a medical certificate describing the accident and its circumstances is required. Also according to this report, the number of suicides recognized as accidents at work varies between 10 and 30 each year.
It should be noted that work-related mental illnesses particularly affect women. According to this report, 60% of the victims of work-related psychosocial disorders are women and they are generally in their forties. They are more affected because they are more represented in highly exposed sectors. Among them, we find the medico-social (18% of work accidents due to mental illness), transport (15%) and retail trade (13%).
