That’s it, they’re all here! According to the latest weekly bulletins from Public Health France and the Sentinelles network, influenza, bronchiolitis and gastroenteritis are currently rife in France.
On the side of the bronchiolitis, the health authorities recorded 5,000 visits to the emergency room between December 23 and 29, 2019. This bronchial pathology generally linked to a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is most often benign: however, 35% of affected children were hospitalized – in 93% of cases, they were babies under one year old. Since December 9, 2019, all of metropolitan France has been on “epidemic” alert level for bronchiolitis.
Influenza, gastroenteritis and bronchiolitis: let’s stay vigilant
On the side of the gastroenteritis, the most affected regions are the Grand Est, Occitania and New Aquitaine. In addition, between December 23 and 29, 2019, the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Bretagne, Île-de-France, Occitanie, Pays de la Loire and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regions were raised to the level of “pre-epidemic” alert by Santé Publique France. Health authorities recorded 289 GP visits per 100,000 people in week 52 alone.
If the seasonal flu is, for its part, in slight decline, the disease remains present in France: according to Santé Publique France, 51 consultations for flu syndrome per 100,000 inhabitants were listed between December 23 and 29, 2019. Four regions are still in “pre-epidemic” alert level: the south of France, Brittany, the Grand-Est and Île-de-France. Since November 4, 2019, 47 “serious” cases of influenza have been reported, mainly in people aged 64 and over.
