Breast cancer affects one in eight women in France. In most cases, it requires surgery, which can be focused on removing the tumor (lumpectomy) or more invasive, which is called a mastectomy (partial or total removal of the breast). Anyway, these operations weaken the tissues, make them painful.
To regain movement and flexibility, several options are possible, such as breast physiotherapy or (in addition) sport. It is for this reason that Decathlon worked in collaboration with the Oscar Lambret center (regional center for the fight against cancer of Hauts de France) in order to develop a bra adapted to women who have undergone this type of operation. The latter, which is approved “medical device”, is due out in March 2021, specifies the press release and will not cost more than a classic model.
An adapted medical device
Sport is known to have beneficial effects on health. It is attributed a very important role in the cure rate or lower risk of cancer recurrence. But to practice it, you have to be well equipped. Gold, after a breast removal, classic bras are no longer suitable.
The Kalenji bra called Jogkokoon + was designed to be a real medical device. The latter had to fulfill various objectives: to be softer, not to have any reinforcements, not to risk irritating the skin or to ensure a neckline that secures the maintenance of the prosthesis, while being equipped with a prosthesis pocket to compensate for the absence of a breast on the operated side. In addition, sports bras are often very tight and difficult to put on. This new model will have a zipper at the front, between the two breasts, to avoid this inconvenience.
