Since 2010 and the health scandal PIP implants, breast prostheses were no longer talked about. Now, as revealed an investigation by the Parisian, breast prostheses are responsible for a particular form of cancer: anaplastic large cell lymphoma. For 3 years, this tumor has indeed affected 173 women with implants in the world and 18 in France alone. Oncologists have also found that there is no such cancer in people who do not have implants. Finally, of the 18 French cases, 14 appeared in women with Allergan prostheses.
On both sides of the Atlantic, the health authorities are therefore on alert. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health should take stock of the subject today with Agnès Buzyn, president of the National Cancer Institute (Inca) and the health experts from the ANSM. In addition, a meeting will be held in ten days at the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM). Experts will then study the possible ban on these prostheses.
In the meantime, a letter has been sent to doctors asking them to “spot the signs” that should alert their patients.
