The North of the Gard department has been an industrial cradle since the 19th century. In this region, and more specifically in the communes of Salindres and Rousson, 9 cases of glioblastoma, malignant brain tumors have been identified among its inhabitants. A number of cases higher than the departmental average, which pushes the State services to launch a survey to monitor the health situation in these municipalities.
Of the 9 people identified, 8 died. Their average age: 64 years. Three of them worked on the chemical platform at Salidres, but the other six did not. “There is excess mortality from serious illness in this sector of the department. The data are stopped in 2015 and it is therefore possible that the nine known cases are not alone. On February 27, we will organize a liaison committee”, declared the prefect of Gard, Didier Lauga. The census of glioblastoma cases was continued from 2016 to 2019. But the conclusions of this new survey should not be available until 2021.
