Today is the third Monday in January, the most depressing day of the year also known as “Blue Monday”. But is this theory scientifically confirmed?
The most depressing day of the year
According to scientists, the third Monday in January would be the most depressing day of the year. Why ? Quite simply because the holidays are over, spring too far away, the weather gray, wet and cold. In short, optimal conditions to have a blow of the blues and which bears a name: “Blue Monday”.
As a reminder, it was the Irish psychologist and professor at Cardiff University, Cliff Arnal, who established in 2005 that Monday was the most depressing of the year. He has also developed a mathematical formula to determine the day when we are most likely to be depressed. The latter takes into account the weather, our debts, the time since Christmas and the time since our New Year’s resolutions, our motivation and our need to move.
