A blood exposure accident is considered to be any contact with blood or body fluid containing blood and comprising either a skin breakage (puncture, cut) or a projection on a mucous membrane (eye, etc.) or on injured skin. Each year, 55,000 people are victims of it.
This is why, in order to make healthcare professionals aware of the real risks of such accidents, the National Union of the Medical Technology Industry (Snitem), the National Order of Nurses, the Federation of Private Hospitalization, the Company Française de Biologie Clinique (SFBC) and the French Society of Hospital Hygiene have joined forces to launch an information campaign.
A poster on the theme “Accidents due to blood, all it takes is once“will be affixed in health establishments in order to inform health professionals of the real risks of such accidents.
