The Professional Football League wants to bring alcohol into the stadiums. Beer will be allowed for the League Cup final.
During the final of the Coupe de la Ligue between PSG and Lille, which will take place on April 23, alcoholic beer will be authorized for sale inside the Stade de France. A first. The Professional Football League (LFP) would like to be able to extend this exemption from the Evin law in all Ligue 1 stadiums. The key is a substantial increase in club turnover.
“A study shows that when clubs obtain an exemption, their turnover is multiplied by five on the whole of the restoration, and not only on the drinks”, reports Mathieu Ficot, the director of the economic development of the LFP. He also believes that this measure would improve security around the stadiums, because “it is much easier to control the populations once they have passed the controls and are in the enclosure”.
The Evin law suspended?
The distribution of alcohol “is prohibited in stadiums, in physical education rooms, gymnasiums and, in general, in all establishments of physical and sporting activities”. The Evin law of 1991 authorizes ten exemptions, with the agreement of the mayor and the prefect on whom the sports arena depends, and the sale of alcohol in VIP lodges and lounges, which are the responsibility of the restaurant laws. Not enough according to the LFP, which has been fighting for years for the reintroduction of beer in stadium stalls.
In early 2015, an amendment to the Macron bill tabled by Calvados deputy Alain Tourret proposed that the sale of alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of less than 3 degrees be authorized. He had finally withdrawn it himself.
No alcohol for the Euro
“We would like it to be admitted once and for all that beer is allowed in stadiums,” said Arnaud Rouger, director of sports activities of the League, questioned by The Parisian. Just because you sell beer doesn’t mean there is more insecurity. On the contrary, until now, some spectators drink in quantity before coming and arrive completely drunk, because they know that they will not be able to drink inside the enclosure. “
For now, Euro 2016 will however be alcohol-free. Inside the stadiums, it will be necessary to limit oneself to non-alcoholic beers. On the other hand, the Danish group Carlsberg – with its Kronembourg beer – will be the official supplier of the points of sale all around.
