(too) tight clothes
Wearing skinny jeans (ultra-tight jeans) seven days a week can lead to bloating, heartburn, and vein problems. Underwear that is too tight (thongs) or synthetic promotes urinary tract infections, vaginal mycosis and cystitis. The explanation: by increasing local heat and humidity, they irritate this part of the body and weaken it. Men are not spared as wearing tight jeans all the time does not seem good for sperm vigor.
Our advices
Tell yourself that skirts or dresses are good too, and treat yourself from time to time with slims. Especially if you suffer from recurrent fungal infections or cystitis.
In the event of a problem, it is essential to consult your gynecologist to benefit from an appropriate treatment.
For men
Only one recommendation: wear looser pants, preferably cotton, which avoid chafing and maceration.
Bras that are (too) “armed”
“Even if the underwires can lead to repetitive strain injuries, they do not cause breast cancer”, reassures Martine Boisserie-Lacroix, senologist radiologist in Bordeaux. But too loose or ill-fitting, the bra will not do its “job” well. “Over time, it can lead to breast ptosis, that is to say breasts that sag, or pain in the breasts or in the back if you have large breasts, she says. Too tight, they can cause oozing or even a discharge from the nipple.”
Our advices
Breast size changes with weight, pregnancies, etc.
Take your measurements once a year.
The breasts must fill the cups well, but without overflowing.
Check that you can staple the bra to the middle hook, this leaves a margin if one grows larger
or lose weight. The straps must be snug, neither slip nor cut off the shoulders, and the underwires placed just under the breast. In the back, the bra must be horizontal, so do not go up. Do not hesitate to ask a salesperson for advice!
XXL handbags (too) heavy
Make-up bag, telephone, small pharmacy, diary, keys fill our handbags… Problem: all those kilos weigh on our backs and shoulders. “The resulting imbalance is traumatic for the spine, explains physiotherapist Pascal Zaragoza. Repeatedly carrying heavy handbags can affect the muscles and tendons around the shoulder, and cause very painful scapulohumeral periarthritis.”
Our advices
Weigh your bag and be intractable: never more than 4.5 kg all inclusive!
We remember to change shoulders regularly when we walk for a long time.
In case of pain, the best therapy is rest (you can adopt the “banana” bag).
If it persists, we get a massage at a physiotherapist.
And we prevent trouble with bodybuilding exercises for the neck, back and shoulders or we do lengths in the pool.
Jewelry (not so) nickel!
Red patches, itching that appear after wearing jewelry? It’s a contact allergy. Main accused, the nickel, which hides everywhere. “We sometimes find it in white gold, or 14 or 18 carat yellow gold,” says Françoise Bouteloup, allergist in Lyon. Contact allergy can sometimes turn into eczema elsewhere: sensitized the first time by jewelry containing traces of nickel, the allergy is then reactivated by food (this metal is found in whole wheat flour, oats, seafood, etc.).
Our advices
Consult an allergist who will look for the culprit by performing skin tests. But know that there is no desensitization.
The only solution : banish nickel once and for all. “We must therefore track down the mention “nickel free”, advises Françoise Bouteloup. And be particularly vigilant when choosing earrings, because the earlobes are the part of the body most reactive to this metal.”
(Very) very high heels
Your silhouette is sublime, perched on heels… But hello damage! “High heels cause an overload on the forefoot, a source of corns and calluses, explains Nicolas Zahoual, podiatrist in Cannes. And the lack of ankle support promotes sprains.” When you walk with heels, you don’t roll out the foot as you should, that is, like a wave, heel first. Result, we accentuate the flexion of the knee and the arch of the lower back, and it is the door open to lower back pain!
Our advices
Do not deviate from the rule of alternation, even if you are a fan of stilettos. Yes, you can wear sky-high heels, but only once in a while.
To trot around town, do not exceed 4 or 5 cm heels and rediscover the charm of little ballerinas. It’s pretty and it’s relaxing!
Also choose stable models. Which depends more on the arch of the shoe than the heel itself.
