A woman and her baby died during childbirth in a maternity hospital in Aveyron. An investigation is opened to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.
When a cesarean turns into a nightmare. In the night from Wednesday to Thursday, in the middle of childbirth, a 36-year-old mother and her baby died at the maternity hospital in Decazeville in Aveyron, reports The Dispatch. Informed by the Director of the establishment, the Occitanie Regional Health Agency (ARS) indicates in a press release immediately ordering an on-site inspection in order to shed light on the circumstances of this tragedy and to verify compliance with the security conditions. The inspection mission will deliver its report in the coming days, from which the ARS will immediately draw conclusions. For the moment, we just know that the father of the child is part of the nursing staff of the hospital.
A renewed activity authorization
While waiting to find out more, patients whose delivery is scheduled in Decazeville are redirected to the nearest hospitals. This for a period of at least three months. And an autopsy of the mother and the child is said to be underway in Montpellier.
For eighteen years, Decazeville, a town of nearly 6,000 inhabitants, located about 35 kilometers north-west of Rodez, has struggled to keep the 28 beds of its maternity hospital in operation. They were threatened for a time of becoming a perinatal center. The Regional Health Agency has since recalled this tragedy that the maternity ward, where a little less than three hundred deliveries are recorded per year, had seen its activity authorization renewed for 5 years by the ARS on May 28.
A compliance visit was scheduled in six months, in order to check whether the action plan complied with the recommendations, i.e. the recruitment of a pediatrician within 3 months of the job posting, the reorganization of the presence of gynecology practitioners -obstetrics, the implementation of various medical protocols, concerning the care of parturients and the outcome of a shared medical project within the framework of the regional hospital group (GHT).
Finally, a second investigation was opened, this time judicial. It is the parquet floor of Rodez which is in charge.
