The Argentinian media revealed, in the space of two days, the cases of two girls 10 and 11 years old pregnant. Both would have been victims of rapes intrafamily. The first, aged 11, was admitted to the Antonio Scaravelli Regional Hospital in Tunuyan, in the west of the country. Doctors then discovered that she was 25 weeks pregnant, more than six months. Her stepfather is suspected of having raped her, according to police sources cited by local media.
Abortion prohibited
48 hours earlier, another 10-year-old girl discovered she was 32 weeks pregnant, or eight months. The little girl was complaining about abdominal pain with her mother before being admitted to the Humberto Notti Pediatric Hospital in Mendoza, in the west of the country. “The minor was not aware of her pregnancy”, explains Alejandro Gullé, attorney general of the Court of Justice of the province on the television channel Mendoza, as indicated byAFP. Following the hearing of the girl, her uncle, suspected of having raped her, was arrested. The 23-year-old man had lived with the little girl’s family for a few months. He will undergo genetic testing and could be jailed for “aggravated sexual abuse”.
In Argentina, abortion is considered a crime except in cases of rape or danger to the health of the mother. However, in the case of the second girl, the prosecution did not authorize the abortion, due to the advanced stage of the pregnancy.
