This barometer also reveals that while two-thirds of users say they are aware of this bacterial resistance, only 16% are nevertheless able to establish a link with an inappropriate intake of antibiotics.
The results also report that the French are not yet aware of the individual and collective impact of inappropriate consumption of antibiotics. Thus, 65% of those questioned consider that the follow-up of a prescription is strictly personal and only look at oneself.
Antibiotics: Doctors find it hard to say no
Another finding of this survey, four out of ten doctors say they are pressured by their patients to obtain an antibiotic prescription even if it is not essential.
The figures presented in the barometer also highlight the fact that many patients lack knowledge about the ineffectiveness of antibiotics in certain common diseases. Thus, only 13% of French people know that antibiotics are not effective in cases of acute bronchitis, against 39% in cases of viral angina.
And you ? What do you know about antibiotics?
