Since yesterday and until next November, 6,000 people will be questioned by telephone on their perception smoking as part of a scientific study called DePICT (Description of Perceptions, Images and Behaviors related to Tobacco) by Inserm.
These 6,000 participants will include 4,000 adults (18-64 years old) and 2,000 young people (12-17 years old) representative of the French population.
38% smokers at 16
Why include people under 17? “Because with 38% of smokers at 16, France is one of the countries where the prevalence of youth smoking is the highest in Europe “ explain the researchers in a press release.
“Understanding the perceptions of smoking and the determinants of young people’s behavior towards tobacco will make it possible to set up prevention policieseffective “.
Remember that tobacco remains the leading cause of early death in France with 78,000 deaths per year, including 47,000 due to cancer, 20,000 due to cardiovascular diseases and 11,000 to respiratory diseases such as COPD, asthma or the pulmonary fibrosis.
The Inserm survey was also commissioned by the National Cancer Institute (Inca).
