Two unions, the Dental Union (UD) and the Confederation of Dental Unions (CNSD), called dentists to close their doors until December 2 in order to protest against the tariff reform. After the failure of the last negotiations with Health Insurance and many strikes which have already taken place, this reform, imposed by the previous government, had put the dental community in turmoil.
Negotiations still ongoing
This reform consists of a cap on orthodontic prices, prostheses (crowns, bridges, implants) and a revaluation of basic care such as scaling. It was to come into force on January 1, 2018, but has just been postponed to 2019 by Emanuel Macron. Campaign promise, he wants to add “the remainder to zero charge” by 2022. The Minister of Health, Agnès Buzyn, specifies that it is not a question of reimbursing each act, but rather of establishing a ” basic care basket that everyone could have access to (glasses, hearing aids and dentures). The negotiations have therefore resumed firmly.
Dentists vigorously contest these measures and denounce too heavy a drop in prices without compensation, in particular on prostheses which bring them the most money and allow practices to be profitable. They are asking for a revaluation of certain acts, such as preventive care and surgery. The CNSD estimates that half of dentists in France will join this strike. In the event of a dental emergency, it is therefore advisable to go to hospitals.
