For now, Alzheimer’s disease is screened by doctors after diagnosis of the symptoms experienced by the patient. However, this method represents a risk of error of 20% and the diagnosis is often late.
To detect the first signs of this neurodegenerative disease earlier, researchers at Laval University in Quebec have therefore developed a new technology based on the principle of nuclear magnetic resonance, capable of detecting the thinning of the tissues of the brain, a sign of progressive brain atrophy. Thanks to this new screening method, the risk of misdiagnosis will be reduced to 8%.
