Despite relentless health rules and multiple product recalls for suspected contamination with harmful bacteria, the agri-food industry sometimes lets in unsavory substances that we would prefer to do without.
Every day, we unknowingly swallow animal remains, rubbish or dirt. And even if it will not make us sick, it is never pleasant to know what we swallow without knowing it, whereas we would never do it by being aware.
And even while trying to decipher the label, certain substances slip by the wayside. It is indeed sometimes difficult to decipher what is really hidden behind scientific names. According to a study published in October 2021 in the journal Naturewe consume each year more than four kilos of additivessprinkled by manufacturers and potentially harmful to our health.
