Young French people still consume too much tobacco, alcohol and drugs: this is the conclusion of the latest Ipsos barometer carried out for Macif, entitled “Addictions and their consequences in young people“.
We first learn that alcohol remains the first substance consumed in France since 84% of young people aged 16 to 30 say they have already consumed it. Then comes cannabis: more than a third of young people aged 16 to 30 use it or have already tried it (36%).
Tobacco, cannabis and alcohol: risks minimized by consumers
Other drugs are much more in the minority: for example, 14% of young people say they use (or have tried) ecstasy, MDMA, GHB, poppers, nitrous oxide or LSD. One in 10 young people say they use (or have tried) cocaine or crack (11%). And just under one in 10 young people say they consume (or have tried) heroin (8%).
The Ipsos barometer then emphasizes the accumulation of substances: thus, regular cannabis users claim to also regularly consume alcohol (81%) and tobacco (86%), cocaine or crack (38%), heroin (40%), ecstasy, MDMA, GHB, nitrous oxide or LSD (42%).
Problem: according to the results of the barometer, there is a gap between the perception of risk and the real risk. Thus, while all of the young people questioned are aware of the risks associated with the consumption of heroin, cocaine, crack, LSD…, 24% of cannabis users believe that “dangers [de cette drogue] are much less than what is said“. The risks associated with the consumption of alcohol and tobacco are also reduced.
