Women are more vulnerable than men to the risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption. Indeed, “heavy drinkers” are more affected by early mortality than men according to the results of the study published in the specialized journal “the Journal of Women’s Health”.
Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing analyzed 24 studies involving a total of 2,424,964 participants, including 1,473,899 men and 951,065 women. 123,878 deaths were observed.
“We did not have proof that the effects of alcohol on the risk of all-cause mortality were different between women and men. To examine this process, we performed a meta-analysis to assess the different consequences of alcohol consumption in women and men, ”explains Professor Chao Wang, co-author of the study.
Women are more vulnerable to the risks associated with overconsumption of alcohol
The researchers found that women are 1.52 more affected by early mortality than men if they consume 75 g of alcohol per day, 1.95 if they drink 90 g of alcohol per day and 2.36 per 100 g of alcohol. alcohol drunk per day.
” Women have an increased risk of mortality all causes linked to alcohol consumption, in particular for “heavy drinkers”. The results of this study suggest that women who drink excessively must particularly and even more than men moderate or completely reduce their level of consumption to improve their health, ”concludes Professor Chao Wang.
