On the occasion of the Sidaction which will take place from April 1 to 3, the student mutual insurance company SMEREP conducted a survey to understand and analyze the behavior of young people in the face of AIDS. The results released today reveal that students and high school students have a misconception about AIDS. 15% think it is easy to be cured, and half of them do not protect themselves.
Too infrequent screening
Students are affected by the change of partners. However, the majority of them (3 out of 4) do not get tested. The reason stated by students and high school students is that “they consider that they have not taken a sufficient risk by changing partners. The study also reveals that nearly 15% of students and high school students think that today, it is easy to recover from AIDS thanks to the treatments ”.
Often forgotten condoms
This survey also tells us that taking out a condom during sex has not become the habit of the majority of students. Indeed, almost half of them (43%) do not systematically have sex with a contraceptive. And 14% of them never use it. Like 10% of high school students. “The reason for this“ oversight ”varies depending on the sample, explains the mutual fund’s press release. “Overall, French students justify themselves by explaining that they did not have a condom on them (12%), whereas for Ile-de-France residents, the reason mentioned for 20% of them is that they think that their partner did not have STIs / AIDS at the time of intercourse ”.
“The survey published by SMEREP shows risky behavior in matters of sexuality among young people. Misinformation regarding the AIDSand its recovery, as well as the recklessness of their behavior, is alarming. SMEREP therefore wishes to warn about these dangerous practices and encourage high school and college students to be much more vigilant on this subject. Prevention brochures are available either on www.smerep.fr or directly within the SMEREP reception ”, declares Pierre Faivre, Administrator, in charge of prevention at SMEREP.
