I, an 88 year old woman, broke my hip two years ago. I had surgery and it went well, but the strength in my leg never returned. I have no pain in my hip, but I do have pain in my wrists and shoulders because I walk with two canes. Nobody knows what to do, not even the physiotherapist. Do you?

I don’t know a good answer to this either. You are old and with it comes that you become vulnerable: the ability to restore the body functions is reduced. The fracture of a hip and the associated operation (anaesthesia, prolonged lying) place a heavy burden on the entire constitution.
You should also think of the nerves in the back, the blood vessels that run to the nerves and muscles, and the muscles themselves. I’m guessing a nerve was damaged in the fall or hit in the surgery. You cannot repair damaged nerves, but I would continue to practice under the guidance of a physiotherapist.
