Addictive substances used in the workplace lead to serious addiction problems. In France, 69% of assets are affected and it is mainly through the search for performance.
Drugs, alcohol, tobacco… the addictions to psychotropic substances developed within the framework of work represent a real health scourge. In France, they affect 20 (out of 29) million working or unemployed workers.
In women, managers show the highest percentage of risky alcohol consumption (11.7%), ahead of female workers and craftsmen (8.6%).
Help to fall asleep, bulwark against stress…
In November 2017, researcher Gladys Lutz, president of the association Addictologie et travail, explained to us that these work addictions (also called doping at work) paradoxically increased the rate of presenteeism in business.
“For several professions, these consumptions help employees to come to work, when we work staggered hours for example, they sometimes help to manage everything we have to do outside of work or they help to sleep and therefore be more in good shape”, develops the expert.
Promote communication in business
To prevent addictive behavior at work, Gladys Lutz suggests restoring dialogue within companies. “There are prevention bodies on health at work, but there is little or no room for dialogue, so that employees can express their difficulties”, she laments.
Monday, January 14, the government organization France Strategy sent a message to the attention of business leaders, to encourage them to engage in the fight against addictions and the prevention of risky consumption.
