The actress Manuela Lopez, seen recently in the “Mysteries of love”, revealed having been hospitalized three times in intensive care because of acute cardiomyopathy, heart failure which increases the risk of sudden death.
- Since the end of December, the actress has been hospitalized 3 times in intensive care.
- She suffers from cardiomyopathy, a disease whose symptoms are similar to those of a heart attack
In a post dated February 28, Manuela Lopez indicated that she was suffering cardiomyopathy associated with atypical Tako-Tsubo. “JI have been doing my best for several weeks to get out of this infernal circle of recurrences of myocarditis and I fight every day”, she indicated. On March 9, on his Instagram accountManuela Lopez spoke in more detail about this heart disease which forces her to follow a heavy protocol of care and nails her to a hospital bed.
Three hospitalizations in intensive care since December
Tako-Tsubo, or broken heart syndrome, is manifested by symptoms close to a heart attack: shortness of breath, sudden pain in the chest in a vise radiating into the arm and jaw, palpitations, loss of consciousness or vagal discomfort. This genetic condition affects the heart muscle and reduces the heart’s ability to pump blood to the rest of the body. “My cardiac pathology is atypical, multiple, but finally identified, we are setting up a new care and medication protocol long enough to stop these recurrences which are seriously damaging my heart.”, she writes. This heart failure increases the risk of sudden death.
Early treatment is essential to properly treat the disease. In the opposite case, as evidenced by Manuela Lopez, the pathology leads to acute left ventricular arrhythmias that can cause sudden death and arterial embolism. Women are the most affected because their arteries are particularly sensitive to the effects of stress hormones and spasm more easily. Postmenopausal women are all the more exposed to it as they are no longer protected by their natural estrogens.
Front dentition removed
The 48-year-old actress, who played the cousin of Cri-Cri d’amour in Helen and the boys and who recently saw in the program “Mysteries of love”, suffers from this disease for several years. In 2016, she indicated that she had suffered from it since 2007. This genetic heart failure increases the risk of sudden death and requires heavy treatment to avoid serious sequelae. “Since the end of December I have been hospitalized 3 times in intensive care without counting the frequent examinations”, reveals the actress in her last Instagram post.
The support protocol is cumbersome. “In this protocol, they will also dismantle my front dentition; implants and bone reconstructions (because the teeth are linked to the heart and any small bacteria identified can damage the heart)“, she reveals. Manuela Lopez has not lost her optimism. “A big project to stay alive, which is the main thing, the rest can be repaired, it doesn’t matter! I want to get out of it so much to shout it out loud… (in between I manage to keep my spirits up because life doesn’t forget me and gives me nice gifts and then I’m lucky to be supervised by the best so it will.” She indicated that her cardiac rehabilitation will last at least until the end of August.
