We saw her in Scenes of households, The mirror of water or in the very recent Edmond : Clémentine Célarié is a French figure of the small screen and the cinema.
In a book published this Thursday, November 4, 2021 (Forbidden Words, published by Albin Michel), the 64-year-old actress and director has revealed that she suffers from colon cancer, a common pathology in France which is the second most common cancer in women after breast cancer.
Asked by our colleagues from RTL, Clementine Célarié “asks the public not to [la] look with an air of pity“since she considers having had”very lucky to experience this ordeal and to come out of it“.
“It’s not because we have cancer that we die”
If, for her, “telling the truth is already a form of healing“, the actress nevertheless hid her illness for two years,”felt like ten“:”it was horrible to lie (…) I didn’t want people on tour to be afraid.“
Because cancer is scary: “sometimes people look at you like you’re dead, but no, you’re not dead, you’re there. (…) Just because a person is going to say they have had cancer does not mean that someone is going to get it. Just because you have cancer doesn’t mean you die.“Thus, 63% of patients with colorectal cancer are still alive 5 years after diagnosis, according to theNational Cancer Institute.
Clémentine Célarié believes that she is now cured: “finished, the cancer is gone, it was taken away from me, it was destroyed. (…) I have to rebuild my body which has not been destroyed that much, but which I feel a little rusty. I must be reborn.“
