Coins, small toys, batteries, cartons of laundry. So many everyday objects that can present dangers to young children when they are not kept at a safe distance from them. The domestic accidentsarrived quickly when the parents had their backs turned.
The Ministry of Health recalls the right actions to adopt to prevent risks after a recent case of accidental ingestion of soda lye by a two-year-old child. In question, a household product whose safety cap had not been correctly screwed.
The Directorate General of Health (DGS) and the Directorate General for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) recall the usual recommendations:
-the products used (for household, DIY, gardening, etc.) must be stored out of the reach of children.
-the safety cap must be closed slowly. Parents should check that they are properly locked by trying to reopen them.
– vigilance is required during the use of these products at risk: “never leave, even a few moments, these products within reach of a child” warn the authorities in a press release.
-a hazardous product must never be transferred to another container.
An INPES document summarizing good reflexes against domestic accidents in children is made available free of charge to parents on the Internet. http://www.inpes.sante.fr/CFESBases/catalogue/pdf/978.pdf
