To make her daughter lose weight, a 37-year-old Russian mother made her daughter believe she was suffering from a Cancer and diabetes and that she had to drastically reduce food. It is a very gloomy news item that is making the front page of the Moscow media. Viktoria Demiyanova, 14, died of starvation after following her mother’s advice to eat less to cure a so-called serious illness. The Russian teenager died of malnutrition. His mother, accused of infanticide, faces 20 years in prison. Viktoria weighed only 30 kilos when she was found unresponsive.
Only fed twice a week
The months preceding her death, the teenager had lost a lot of weight. To classmates who were worried about her physical transformation, which they thought at the beginning due to stress, the girl then explained that she had to starve herself in order to recover from a supposed cancer and diabetes. The testimonials of friends at her school are chilling: “She had skin and bones. She looked anorexicand was starving at home”, one of them told the DailyMail. “When her mother came with her to meet teachers, she said that it was enough for Viktoria to eat once or twice a week,” said another. This belief, instilled by her mother, was swept away by the investigators who were able to observe that the teenager was not in fact suffering from any disease. Before suffering from severe malnutrition, Viktoria was in good health.
