Porsche is preparing, with Pixar, a 911 type 992 inspired by the 996 named Sally from the “Cars” films. This unique example will be homologated for the road and put up for auction for charitable purposes, in particular to help Ukrainian refugees.
Porsche and the Pixar animation studio announce that they are working on a unique 911 inspired by Sally Carrera, the hero’s accomplice Lightning McQueen in the film trilogy Cars launched in 2006. In the cinema, Sally is a 911 Carrera type 996 from 2002. According to the German manufacturer, the idea of drawing inspiration from it to create a car came from the 20th anniversary of the model. Porsche had already made a physical replica of Sally, which is regularly displayed. It is a shortened 996, with a raised roof, equipped with eyes in place of the windshield and a mouth in the middle of its front bumper. But this time, the idea is to produce a unique edition of the current 911 type 992, homologated for the road and intended for sale.
Sally draws herself before she comes alive
The first sketches of the 992 “Sally” were revealed at the South by Southwest (or SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas (USA), an annual cultural event where Porsche is present for the first time. In particular, we discover a 911 coupé in Sally’s characteristic light blue hue., and various studies relating to the choice of finish and accessories. Designers at Pixar collaborate with those at Porsche as part of the Sonderwunsch special order program of the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur personalization department.
A unique 911 soon to be auctioned
The 911 co-created by Porsche and Pixar will be produced in a unique example and auctioned by RM Sotheby’s, with an equally exclusive matching watch. Proceeds from the sale will be donated to two charities, one depending on the UN to help refugees, including those currently fleeing Ukraine (for which Porsche has also donated €1 million), the other helping girls and young people women in the United States. ” It will have a see-through windshield, and share body panels with the 911 we know and love. But, like Sally, her goal will be to help others, and that makes her very special. », says Kjell Gruner, CEO of Porsche for North America.
