Researchers rely on research done on men with prostate cancer to praise the merits of this therapy. This article is published in the latest issue of the journal Deutsches Ärzteblatt International.
The men studied, affected by this type of cancer, indicated that they felt less the importance of the organic aspect of sexuality after having undergone an operation, while they said they felt the intimate aspect of sexuality just as much. .
Urologists have concluded that male sexual disorders could be treated via so-called “syndiastic” therapy, equivalent to couples therapy but with a sexual aspect. This therapy which appeared in Germany in 2004 is based on psycho-social needs, in a broad way and not only from a sexual point of view.
The name of this therapy is derived from a Greek word used by the philosopher Aristotle. It would increase “understanding of sexuality” and “satisfaction within a relationship”. It would differ from other somatic or psycho-social treatments, mainly because it is not based on the restoration of sexual function.
Urologists point out that male sexual disorders can be explained by a decrease in desire, as well as for various cultural reasons. These disorders can also occur as a result of conditions like depression or diabetes, and even be warning signs of serious health problems like heart disease.
